Summer siren…pink-red-wine fusion!

“You look like a summer siren!” exclaimed a work friend as we walked from the office under the blazing sunshine. Tuesday was one of those rare, lovely summers day we haven’t had in a while. It’s on those days I like to dress as bright as I can and take advantage of the sunshine.imageSo a summer siren….huh? Sirens are found in many Greek stories, Homer’s Odyssey for instance. Sirens were beautiful, yet dangerous creatures, their lovely music was said to entice sailors to their doom. imagePhoto:Google Images

According to my friend, my outfit with it’s colour fusion of oranges, pinks, wines and reds was fiercely beautiful and enticing….just like those mythology creatures. As the conversation went on and we strolled through the park, we saw beautiful red flowers and as they complimented my outfit, we thought that this was certainly a photo opportunity!!imageWhen I put on my outfit on that morning, I never thought I will walk through the park under the sun and red flowers. The outfit was my choice and my environment just helped me look like a ‘summer siren’. Sometimes our environment and society can influence how we look but at the end of day we are our own style Picassos!!image

The Lumberjack shirt invasion

My sister is on vacation in Vancouver at the moment. She shared some photos of herself at a Loggers/Lumberjack Festival. This got me very curious. I wanted to find out more so I enquired from ‘Uncle’ Google. Interestingly, these are very popular festivals in a lot of countries. It’s all about log cutting competitions, the history of lumberjacks and other entertaining games.imageWhat caught my eye was the shirts these men wore. Until now, I didn’t know that the scotched shirts were the lumberjack shirts. The shirts were mostly of wine and black shade but have since expanded to include various different colours. A lot of men have a lumberjack shirts in some shade or other.

In recent years and certainly this summer women have raided the lumberjack shirts. I’m one of them and I didn’t even know I bought a logger’s shirt until a close friend complimented my lumberjack look.imageWhat I like about these shirts is the casual and comfort factor. You can dress them in many ways and in whatever way you like. There are lumberjack shirt dresses which you can accessorise with sandals in summer or in winter with tights and boots. Who knew even shirts woren by axeman could be a wardrobe essential for ladies.image

The Wild ’60s Fashion

Fashion evolves! What we are wearing now, the next generation will no doubt view with both awe and dread…..but then that generation’s kids might start rocking our style.

I remember, as a kid, my parents had a small wine-coloured briefcase which they kept for storing different kind of papers but also some very old photos. I recall a photo of my aunt (Mum’s sister) and her friend as girls wearing tight mini dresses, platforms shoes and very big hair (which I found out later were wigs).image(Not my aunt and her friend but the look is close!)

I was shocked…..my aunt wearing a mini-skirt when, I thought, most of the girls back then didn’t wear anything above the knees walking down the street. When I asked my mum how my aunt got away with this, I was told that was the fashion at the time. Yes, it was the 1960s and the mini-skirt and mmini-dress was the most eye-catching garment of the decade…. designed for the skinny female form, ideally. imageNow the 1960s are back on the high streets, in different forms and trends. Although the minis ruled the roost, flares, midis (for the conservative types) and velvet were all part of the 60s trend.imageSometimes, when I buy clothes and wear them, it takes someone to remind me what era I’m rocking. Our clothes are all from past decades, just not of the same quality in most cases. Your mum’s wardrobe might have looked like a fashion nightmare when you were 14 years old but if you visit it now, it’s a haven of vintage, durable fabric and great quality clothes.imageBefore you put away those wonderful clothes, think about how the next generation will appreciate your wardrobe, when it comes back in fashion 50 years from now. Maybe in next few decades kids will be walking around wearing technology-based outfits……..so our outfits will be a little bit unique!image

White – the new black!

Last weekend I attended a christening where 6 babies were being baptised. The babies looked so adorable in their little white outfits. Prior to the christening there was a wedding in the same church and the bride looked stunning. These two occasions were happy new beginnings for all involved and both had one thing in common – they wore white!imageI have blogged about a lot of colours in the last year but never about white. I suppose it’s because it is  a colour I never thought too much about until recently, when I noticed that even my wardrobe’s pallet is displaying a shimmer of white!  We all strive for change in our lives, we want to feel at peace, within and without, and that’s where the colour white can work perfectly. It is said that attraction to white clothes or accessories might be viewed as a wish for new beginnings and renewal or it might even encourage the purification of one’s thoughts and actions –  so, I took this as a sign for me and put it to test….imageAs it’s the summertime, I have decided to wear all white on a few different occasions and I have to admit, I feel very energetic, peaceful and happy.imageWhite is the prettiest colour that can complement any other hue…… so, if you are not all about white then put it to use with darker coloured clothing.image
